Spa Tips and Etiquette For A Better ExperiencePosted on
Those new to the spa scene tend to be overwhelmed by the whole experience and aren’t sure what to expect. We don’t want you to feel so worried when you’re supposed to feel relaxed, so we compiled some tips and etiquette for your experience.
Don’t be afraid to let us know that this is your first time going to a spa or even your first time visiting our spa. There are so many options to choose from, we know it’s going to be difficult to decide what treatments to book. We’re ready to help you make an informed choice so don’t be afraid to ask any and all questions you have. You will also be able to choose ahead of time between a male or a female therapist.
Before The Spa
There isn’t a whole lot for you to do before your appointment other than take a shower, so you’re all cleaned up. Don’t worry if you’re not able to take a shower at home, we have showers available for you to use before your appointment.
** Note that if you’re getting a massage, you should be hydrated before your appointment, but not overly so where you need to take a break mid-session. Don’t overeat or over drink since you will be on your stomach and will be uncomfortable during that time.
Arrive early! For massages, you want to arrive 30 minutes prior to your appointment. With this extra time, you’ll be able to complete a questionnaire, use the bathroom, and change out of your clothes. This will also be the time for you to silence your phone and settle down. It’s also spa etiquette to not disturb other clients.
You might be wondering what the undressing procedure is for massages. Some people undress completely while others leave on their undergarments; it’s all up to you. You’ll be given time to slip under the sheets before your therapist comes in and the only body parts that will be exposed are the ones being massaged. What body parts are massaged, and what body parts are not, is decided by you.
This is supposed to be an enjoyable experience for you so let your therapist know if you have any aches, pains, or spots where you want extra attention. Things like pressure and table temperatures can be adjusted so please don’t be shy about informing your therapist.
15 to 20% gratuity is customary for your therapist. You can tip up front or take a tip envelope from the front desk to leave a tip in the room afterward.
The showers will be available for you to use after your appointment so you’ll be able to wash away any oils left on you. To help flush out toxins, you want to drink plenty of water and/or herbal tea after your appointment.
